Style By (On my way home from work I passed by a grocery store and saw the magazine. It's the first edition of the magazine by the famous Swedish blogger Elin Kling. And I don't hate it!)

But the most important thing of all that I carry around is the "peace" stone my friend Prisca (@Survoler) gave me. Every time I feel stressed out, sad or just nervous about something I take out the stone take a deep breath and relax for a few seconds, and most of the times it helps. It reminds me to slow down.

Today is also Prisca's birthday, so here's a shout out to her! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! My counselour, my hair adviser and dear friend.

Just saw Katy Perry's new music video, E.T. Not only does the video feauture my favourite Kanye West but it also features the beautiful model Shaun Ross.

It just amaze me how beautiful this black albino model is. I will never understand how beeing different is in some people minds seen as strange or bad . I do not have room for hatred or jealousy in my heart, I really do believe that the most unique feautures and qualities in person is what makes him or her beautiful. Different is good.

So spring is finally arrived in Norway, or at least we have had some days of sun and degress above 0. So yes spring, and after spring comes summer. Suicidal much? Not YET but sad like a mothasucka. So yes I went to Norway and this thing happened at the airport so I couldn't take TW with me (Tiger Wood my cat, and I've had to return to Barcelona and leave him with my friends). ...sad.very sad... And my blog is kinda suicidal too. What to write about? loosing my cat (well I can pick him up in 4 months..but still it's a long time), me overeating (because yes it's cold in Norway, HELLA cold so there's nothing else to do than eat, I'm a phuking bear and not even Kanye's workout plan can help me now), me STILL being unemployed (reading "Bitter is the new black" was NOT a good idea) and yes I like to complain... So I was talking to my friend the other day about the blog, and he said you should totally post outfits pictures. And I was like whaaa? Don't get me wrong I love outfit blogs and I'm a true follower of many. The today’s outfit thing has become a phenomenon that is a source of inspiration. So yesterday while I was out and about with some friends, I saw a bunch of shoes next to the garbage. Someone who was stuck in the mid 90ies and who probably was over sixty years old (or a man with really bad taste and a huge shoe fetish) had thrown out the shoes. Some were even completely new like the red ones I tried on. It was like wearing Pinocchio’s nose on my feet, those were some hella pointy shoes. Besides from laughing like a maniac while wearing the red shoes I also thought that there are a lot of people in the world who don't have shoes, so how can people just throw them like that? Maybe they could give them to some charity organization and there are plenty of containers where you can put the shoes so they don't go to waste and are given to people who need them. I know they are butt ugly but still not everyone wants or needs Manolo's..... (I want)....

So even though Alexander Wangs models look like me at the african hairdresser having the relaxer done (straightening out the hair), his pieces are really a breath of fresh air. Being the fan and admirer of this designer whos clothes I really can't afford, these pictures of his backstage showing of his S/S 2011 collection, are definetly eye candy for me. I know I know I said I would write more often… AGAIN. And it’s now been what? two weeks? Well here it goes, Paris;

So I’m a contributor at the uber cool online magazine Vanity Teen and I got the opportunity to attend Paris Men’s Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Week, to write a mini report about the week for the issue #9. Read the final result here

Me loving fashion (especially Men’s fashion has had my eye for quite some while) and PARIIISSS being my favorite city in the world made this trip the highlight of the year (so far). I’ll probably be the girl who says we’ll always have Paris, when things are going bad.

I love Paris, it’s really the only city that gives me this feel good feeling and this trip made me rethink about why I don’t live there. The streets, the people, the atmosphere I don’t know must be something in the air because for my whole stay I had this stupid smirk on my face I even spoke French (a sign maybe?).

But despite Paris being my dream city, some strange things be happening here, like a homeless woman beating her cat on the streets and screaming at him, I felt the tears building up inside. Ya’ll know how much I love my cat (I even dedicated him a post) so I didn’t like to see that (I ate a Mc Flurry after I saw this, if you’re wondering how I overcame the shock).

Speaking of Mc Flurry, there’s nothing flurry about the French mc flurry.

Back to the reason I actually went to Paris – Paris Men’s Fashion Week!

So my week started with the Juun.J show

Well before the show started I met the talented and super cool photographer Syed Munawir, he took some shoots for Vanity Teen, AMAZING shoots. Taking the metro all trough Paris to get to the shows with this guy was hella fun! So I met up with him and we sat at this coffee shop waiting for the show to start.

Some cool people passed by and I snapped some pictures

Then suddenly Macaulay Culking just passes by! And off course I get up and take a picture and he was actually very friendly. I was excited about meeting him for hours after that.

Then it was all the fashionable people waiting outside the venue where the show was going to be held

And not in a bad way, they were really friendly, nice, good looking, cute and NO bitching! I’ve now seen that male models are nothing like girl models. Male models are much more laid back, while well girls are girls.

I’m baaack! (With a HAT)

Ya’ll probably thought I was dead, had given up on the blog or something. But no, I was here all along, lacking inspiration and chilaxing somewhere else far away from the Mac book. After months going crazy with the thesis I finally handed it in, presented it and got graduated. So i'm (bucky done) DONE!

I’m now back in boring Norway and I’m going to try to post some more, because this blog is ridiculously bad.

This blog is as good as dead and I wish some bloggers out there could give me some advice on how to keep it fresssh. I dunno there are days when I don’t really feel like posting anything, and days often turn into weeks. Anywhuuuu here is a resume of what RubyOh has been doing:

Thesis, thesis, thesis, thesis, thesis, thesis, handed in the thesis, passed out on the sofa, thesis, thesis, thesis, Paco spoke to me when I went to buy coffee at Starbucks for the millionth time, thesis, thesis, daydreamt about Paco, thesis and then:

On Thursday I went to a Sex and the City party on the roof of a hotel here in Barcelona. The party should have been called shit in the city party. (Ha!) No just kidding, but It really wasn’t all that. I felt like I was in a gossip girl party gone bad. Posh people from the upper class that couldn’t even afford their own cigarettes and came up to me every five seconds asking for one, snobs in their polo shirts slamming the door in my face (guess a million dollar school doesn’t really give them any good manners) and people dressed like they were living in 1997.

I thought the purpose of a party like this was to have a bunch of fabulous single women, gay men wearing their best suits, good looking men, but all I saw was Cholas wearing furry boots, drunk rich women, disgusting sugar daddy’s and maybe a handful of good looking people.

Then all these ugly people had the nerve to stare at my socks like I was some freak. Don’t they know that socks + high heels are the shit right now?! I guess not. In my opinion I looked hella good in my dancing shoes with my white socks.

I felt stupid for bringing my camera thinking that maybe I would see some cool outfits, but truth be told I see more hotness at the supermarket. This sex and the city themed party lacked all the fashion, something that is like 90% of the show.

Bitter or angry me naaaw! I’m finishing the thesis presentation and I believe I’m allowed to be somewhat bitter, rude and in a bad mood. But some good thing happened too at this party.

The absolute highlight of the night was when I saw Tony Santos!!! Who you ask? Well this guy had a one hit wonder when I was 15 and my friend and I had a huge crush on him. We used to skip class to listen to his album on our Discman. He was the finalist in this show called Operación Triunfo that can be compared to shows such as American Idol. Anywhuu I went up to him and asked for a photo, I even said I had a crush on him 7 years ago. He was really nice and gave me the biggest smile and stood next to me while Susa tried to figure out my Olympus e-200

and took like a million pictures I even felt awkward at one point standing there forever

But he still kept that cute smile on his face

He even said nice to meet you when we said goodbye and thank you. Very sad that meeting this person that i liked as a teenager that isn't famous anymore was the best part of the night.. And Oh of course dancing to it’s raining men with my friends was definitely super fun. But that was it.

Anywhuuu spending the night with fabulous people made it all worth wild, I have to thank Jordi for the invites.

I couldn’t have better company than Susa and Jordi.

After that night we had a pre-presentation of the thesis that went marvelous (can you say that or does it sound stupid?) I went to the beach this weekend and even had a picnik at the park. Good times. I’m now sitting in the balcony with my roomies (- Jose the guy we live with that is disgusting) drinking some red wine, dancing wearing heels (why? Because we can). Now this is what I call a Sex and the City party. In the words of Writenerdy a nice ending to a weird week.

No, I’m not at the beach. This is a picture from last year, when I had the time to go to the beach.

No, I’m not at the park either. This is me last year… happy without worries.

Instead of chillaxing at the beach or a park I’m sitting in the balcony typing like a maniac, because I have to hand in the thesis on Monday. So here I am reminiscing about the time I could enjoy the sun from some other place than my balcony.

Today I’ve done some pretty cool stuff to, that I’ll be telling ya’ll about soon. It’s about fashion.

But before I did those cool things I went to school and while I was looking rather shitty, my friend Anna Lur was looking hella good! This girl has developed her own uber cool style which suites her perfectly and gives her that certain something.

The denim jeans combined with the loose tee, cat eyes shaped glasses ( NOTE: this are the glasses you must have this summer), gold hoops and her cutie smile made her really stand out from the rest of the tired fashion students in the classroom today. So since I had my camera with me I snapped some pictures of her to show ya’ll one of the most beautiful girls I know.

I am now sitting in the living room with my two favorite girls here in Barcelona enjoying the closest thing to a normal evening we'll ever get. We’re listening to some Hot Chip, Prisca is hatin’ it and listening to Jill Scott trough her earphones, Susa’s computer charger exploded in her hands and we’re sitting in our little office aka the dining table covered with water bottles, chips, papers and everything is a hot mess.

It’s already Thursday and I don’t know how the week went by so fast.

I woke up on Monday feeling like one of the redheads from M.I.A’s new video, Born Free at least I felt like I was in the military and had to get ready for war when my friend opened the door and said (shouted) WAKE UP! I had slept for like three hours since I was feeling really bad the night before, when my sunshine friend Prisca opened the door singing, talking and saying hurray. With my bloodshot eyes, semi fever and Diana Ross hair I got out of bed and walking like the hunchback of Notre Dame I gave Prisca a hug and said hurray.

On Monday it was the 17th of May, the Norwegian Constitution day. So like the patriots we are we had a traditional breakfast. Little joy spreader Survoler prepared an amazing breakfast. We did the colorful clothes, lips, watched the marching bands online and and even the cat got a little bow. I was told I looked like an alcoholic because I was wearing sunglasses inside (oh the joy of having friends who are mean when you are wearing glasses to hide the fact that you have a bad cold and the tears are coming out non stop) . Besides the fact that I got bullied, it was a good start on the week.

Yesterday there was this thing here in Barcelona called ”the night of the museums” all the museums are open until 1 a.m. So to get my adult points and get some culture I went to a museum... in the middle of the night.

There were a lot of pieces that really didn’t make any sense and weren’t all that. But as we were walking trough the exhibition I recognized one piece instantly. I blurted out the name of the artist and just stood in front of it saying "wow". Why? Because it was LaChapelle. I had never seen a LaChapelle piece live, so this was kinda big for me, I’ll probably go again just to see the 4 pictures he had there. Only my parents know how many times I’ve hinted that I want one of his books. For those who don’t know David LaChapelle, he’s an American photographer and director, his work is know for being very surrealistic, kinda bizarre, provocative and he always plays with the world of glamour and the ghetto. In my opinion he’s one of the greatest artists of our time that has brought the word and genre of ”pop” to a whole new level. I still remember the film he directed, Rize, really blew me away and had me krumping in my room for days.

Anywhuu today I’ve been feeling hella bad, my nose is running, throat is itching, I’m slightly deaf, I talk like a lolcat and I’m even wearing a wool scarf in the middle of May.

Hmm... what more to write (to kill time and to make up for the fact that I haven’t written in a week).

God. I want this belt and I’m going to get that belt, because my mother has one. Remember when it was ugly to have the brand written on your chest or an accessories with huge letters well not anymore. My mother had this belt in the 90’s and when it got uncool she attached it to a bag, she hardly ever use, So rubyoh just emailed her mother telling her to send it to her (attaching the photo of course so she understand this is once again uber cool).

Well... I think I’m just gonna sit here and watch Karl Lagerfeld’s short movie that I found today. Lagerfeld both wrote and directed, Remember Now.

Speaking of bizarre. This short movie didn't make any sense in my fever haze.

Better find another movie to watch,I’m not going to bed, I'm afraid of falling asleep and not being able to breathe and there’s a chainsaw massacre going on in my throat. God, I hate being sick!

Viva Cuba

The other day I saw an editorial by the photographer Tom Craig for June’s Vogue UK. The reason it caught my eye was the location it had been shot, my birthplace Cuba. But I got quite disappointed once I started looking at all the pictures, the model; Angela Lindvall was looking dead in the eye and quite bored.

The editorial doesn’t really transmit anything else than a beautiful model with nice clothes in an amazing island. I don’t even think the name “Viva Cuba” really suits this editorial either. You don’t travel miles to an island full of life and soul to shoot an editorial that in the end lacks just that.

All in all it’s an OK editorial, but nothing like the editorial photographer Patrick Demarchelier shot for Harper’s Bazaar in 98. The photographer Demarchelier brought along models Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss for an incredible shoot in the heart of the island, Habana. Here the models are more than just a stick figure with pretty clothes, they are one of the Cubans and they are living the Cuban life, now that’s Viva Cuba!

You don’t like Rock n Roll

No I actually don’t, so when my friend Susa got these free entrances to go to see Hunx and his Punx I just said yes because it was a free show. Sure The band's songs had been played in our house (by Susa that is) and I knew about this guy I even youtubed him some hours before the show, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Sure his videos where fun and all, but I don’t know his over the top sweet voice and kind of awkward smirk didn’t convince me and I didn't think there was anything hunky about him. And what’s up with the mustache?

We arrived Razzmatazz where we found a room full of hipsters and me being the only black girl in the room I felt like I was a bad girl who had escaped her gospel loving family household where I should be listening to Billy Holliday to listen to white rock n roll music. Some guy was burping his breakfast in Susa’s face and she felt like telling me that and at that point I thought that the night could only get worse from here.

I had all these thoughts in my head until the band came out. The first thing that struck me was the cute outfits they all were wearing, the Punketts were rocking black garbage bags with a belt around the waist and the sequin jacket the front man was wearing really caught my eye ( ya'll know I like bling). That got them some points. Then the music came on and I started nodding my head, then banging then jumping and then I realized that wow I’d like to get some more junk in my trunk so I can join this band (and maybe learn how to play an instrument). Long story short I actually liked the show a lot! Seth I believe he's called is a great entertainer and the show was all in all super fun.

When the show ended I told Susa to go and take a picture with him and she dragged me along. When we got next to him he told me with that cute voice of his that he loved my shirt and that he used to have one just like it. And this is from a man who owns his own vintage shop. Hell yeah. I felt my whole face turning into red, and I have no idea why, I aint no fan and I'm not a gay man either, and that’s why I turned out looking like THIS:

Can you say awkward? I look like I've gained 200 pounds, I have no neck and I look like a forty five year old single mother. Hell even Seth looks hotter with the mustache and the sweaty face.

And I think (now) that his mustache is hella cool! (On him that is, Kids don’t try this at home).

So I’m at Starbucks now (or I was, I aint paying for no internet so I’m posting the post I wrote at Starbucks at home).

We were working intense on the thesis (it helps when it’s raining all day in sunny Barcelona) until our brain started having a life of it’s own. You know you’re going crazy when your teammate starts writing blofs instead of blogs (and you actually start laughing hard) and you have to wear a beanie to hide the madness you don’t have time to take care of also known as my hair. So we got out of the house and we’re in Starbucks now, blinking to the hot barista Paco, eating a muffin (diet, what?) and having a coffee.

Someone finally wrote my name right on the Starbucks cup. (and it wasn't Paco because "He don't know my name")

Anywhuu my name spelled right makes me happy

I’ve had everything from understandable errors like Rubi (yes it bothers me when people write my name with an i), or people who think I’m named after a currency like Rupee to more "are you deaf you damn barista" when I once had LUBY written on my cup (who names their child, Luby? Not my parents).

Anywhuuu so writenerdy hooked me up with Google analytics and I’ve been seeing how many checks out my blog. And I see that I actually have visitors. So how come I never get any comments? That makes me kinda sad. I know I’m a bad blogger; I’m not even a blogger I’m just a girl trying to blog. So what I’m trying to say; comment me and I’ll write more. Ha! Or I could just delete the whole thing? Or if I get a certain amount of comments I’ll write something or do something? Bloggers do that right? Nah, I’m not pimping me out for my blog, but those who check out Rubyoh, thank youuu!

On the bright side; I might not have many comments or visitors, but since I'm not a "famous" blogger I can declare my love for barista Paco on my blog without he ever knowing. (oh!The joy of being 22 years old and still having a crush on a stranger as if I was 10. Or in the words of Katie Melua - "feeling 22, acting 17").

So I haven’t been blogging much the last couple of days. I went from feeling totally inspired posting something everyday to not having anything funny or interesting to say. I think there’s something wrong with my blogger chip. I don’t even think I can be called a blogger. Anywhuuu It’s not only my fault that I haven’t been blogging, my brother came to visit me this weekend and that pretty much forced me to distance myself from the computer. It’s been like a month since I last saw my brother. We’ve come a long way since the time we used to have huge fights, think we were cooler than the other and tell each other we were adopted, but that's normal right? You know you’re a grown up when you actually travel 800 miles to see your sibling and spend some quality time together, without arguing.

I stole this picture from his Facebook profile, because I think it’s a really cool picture. Lil bro got he’s own little style going on. I like how he’s rocking the retro look, the vintage Lacoste sweater with a turtleneck underneath. And off course the Coca Cola can in front of his face. We have a thing about placing things in front of our faces (my header). Even his music taste has improved, he introduced me to a French band called Nouvelle Vague, and I loved them!

Good taste in music and good style, the only thing we could actually fight over is me having Nouvelle Vague on repeat the whole weekend.

Had a really nice weekend with my bro, but it got a bad turn when I got some bad news that made me pretty sad. I don't think human beings really know how to deal with death. So I’ve been listening to a whole lot of Coldplay. But feeling somewhat better now and I’ll try to write more this week. I’ll probably find the time between working on thesis and combing my hair (I look like freaking Sideshow Bob, who ever said black girls should leave their hair au natural was white. But that’s a whole other post).

Btw, yesterday on our way back home from school, Susa and I saw a bunch of clowns aka grown men disguised as clowns. I just walked normal and started talking about something random when I realized I was talking to myself because Susa was like 100 meters away in a standing fetal position. She’s obviously still haunted by the fear of clowns she had as a child. I was never afraid of clowns and really don’t understand what people find scary about them.

RUCKSACK

For those who don’t know I’m currently working on my thesis. Susa who I’ve mentioned in practically every post is not only my bff/flat mate/fellow blogger/personal photographer/partner in crime; she is also my thesis teammate. We are doing the thesis together and we have had some good times and some bad times, like the times we have been working under pressure, the times we haven’t had ideas, the times we lack creativity or the times we have felt really inspired. We study fashion marketing and communication and I don’t think people who aren’t in the industry or study the same understand how hard it actually is.

Things were going downhill when a teacher told us he didn’t like our idea and we almost had a meltdown after days feeling stressed and trying to come up with something better. Then yesterday we did as our beautiful friend Vito had told us and went out of the house to get inspired. After hours brainstorming and eating 60 cents crackers and looking like crazy women – we had an idea. In the middle of the night. And it was actually pretty good. We presented our idea to another teacher today and she liked it…

So today was a really good day and since I ’m such a good schoolgirl I should dress like one too. My definition of schoolgirl is the backpack and the skirt. Speaking of backpacks I think it’s pretty cool how the Fjellraven backpacks, I mean RUCKSACK (worst name ever) have entered the fashion scene. The Swedish brand has a range of outdoor and hiking gear and backpacks, I mean rucksacks. Anywhuu I got one in Blue, cool, huh? On the way home from school "I have to mention her name again" Susa wanted to take some pictures of me. She was especially fascinated by the mirror standing next to the trash. The girl has a thing for mirrors, just check out the amazing picture she took of my friend Prisca.

Today I had one of those days when I really don’t know what to wear. After days with bad weather the sun finally came out and it was really hot. I was still in the rain-cloudy mood so I didn’t know what I could wear that wouldn’t make me sweat to death. My mind was blank and I had to go to school, so I threw on the easiest and comfiest clothes I own, an oversized white tee and some leggings.I looked like a yoga instructor.

Even though the sun was out it was a bit chilly, so I still needed a jacket to go outside. I had to decide which one of the 25 jackets I own I could wear to at least try to spice up my boring outfit. I decided to go for the long dark blue blazer my mother bought me at Bik Bok. Even though I was wearing the blazer I felt butt ugly. That was until I saw my reflection in a window. HA! I looked like Ricardo ”RICO” Tubbs from MIAMI VICE! Felt kinda "rico". HA! Didn’t make me feel prettier, but at least it was funny.

When I came home I saw my friends Susa’s vintage red blazer hanging on a chair and couldn’t help myself, so I asked her if we could both take a picture or two with the blazers. (She didn’t know why I wanted the pictures until now). It was fun to have a little photo session Miami Vice style. Kind of funny to that my friend and me look like Sonny and Rico (- the blond hair, blue eyes and the mini afro).

At one point I got really into it and went all crazy with the pictures. LITERALLY!

I started posing. And I don’t even like to pose for pictures, i don't even like pictures ( of me that is).

All the fashion from Miami Vice has actually been coming back to the fashion scene. This spring pastel colors and boyfriend blazers are a must have in your closet. I’m personally in love with the colors pink and white on blazers for this spring. I think the color red is definitely also a color you should wear this spring to make you stand out. Top it all with a Don Johnson melting look, sexy smile and you'll be the hottest thing around.

Ruby's Place

Today my friend was talking to me about cars. She is like the most girlie girl I know and she started talking about cars. She said look at the front part of that car it have I don’t know what and the chairs can go back I don’t know how far. I don’t like cars, I don’t care about cars and the closest to a conversation about cars you’ll ever have with me is about the animated movie,CARS! My mind zoomed out while she was talking. I went to my Ruby place, where there are no cars and just things I like.

I’ve been zooming to this kind of happy place ever since my father told me the story about this Alice in Wonderland. I would daydream all the time and fall asleep everywhere. Like the one time I fell asleep on the bus, I was like six or something and I laid my head on the man sitting next to me and fell asleep. I had strategically laid my head on him because he was big, had a long white beard and just looked nice, and I thought he was Santa and he would take me with him to the North Pole… Didn’t happen, my mother eventually woke me up. Then Adam Sandler introduced me to something called the happy place in the movie, Happy Gilmore. After seeing the movie, I realized that adults can also lose them self in a magical world when you want to escape boring conversations and awkward situations.

When my friend was talking about cars we were on our way to a friend’s house. When we got there we all started playing Trivial Pursuit. I was feeling all pumped in the beginning, that was until I understood that the questions were mainly about Spain. I don’t know what the name of the river that divides Spain and Portugal is called or when the first Spanish dictionary came out-Back to the happy place. So yes this Happy place, Ruby place whatever is good when I just want to get away for a minute or two. In this place you find everything that’s good; good food, good music, good clothes, good people, beautiful people, funny people, no problems and you know all the answers to Trivial Pursuit. HA!

Holy Smokes!

Yesterday my friend Prisca, Susa and I went for a walk. Suddenly Prisca said she was craving for a cigarette, since we are “non”-smokers none of us had a pack with us. There were a lot of people on the streets, because there was this neighborhood party going on with concerts and performances. Since she only wanted ONE cigarette and not a whole pack, there were a lot of people she could ask for a cigarette. Susa said something that I think every girl knows, being a girl you should always ask a guy for a cigarette. So Prisca went up to, one, two, three guys, but they all said they didn’t have a cigarette, even though they were smoking one. Then I said that there are certain rules for when you ask a stranger for a cigarette, because you can’t ask everyone. For example sure Prisca asked guys, BUT teenage boys, and when you are a teenager you aren’t exactly rich and will therefore not give away your precious cancer stick to a stranger. And you can’t ask a girl, well you can but they often say no. But if a girl asks you for something, like chewing gum or a tampon, she will give you a cigarette in return if you ask. So as we where walking back home without a cigarette for Prisca I saw a man walking towards us. This man was in his mid thirties, didn’t look poor, dressed ok, didn’t look like a scary man and most important of all had a cigarette in his mouth. I went up to him with the most innocent smile on my face and asked if he could pretty please give me a cigarette, he just smiled and I could see he actually didn’t want to let go of the few he had left in his box, but still he gave me one. I smiled even more and said thank you very much, and voilá a cigarette for Prisca.

Anywhuu, while I was thinking about writing a post about our search for a cigarette, I thought about all the pictures I’ve been seeing lately of people smoking cigarettes. It’s like the cigarettes are back in, they where the cool/ outlaw thing to do in the 50’s, everyone did it in the 70’s, they had a comeback in the 90’s and they are back now. I’ve seen several fashion editorials, magazines spreads and commercials where people are smoking, without forgetting about the Lindsay Lohan photo shoot I wrote about some months ago. When I see pictures I like on the net I often save them in a folder. As I was looking trough a folder I have on my desktop, I saw that I have a lot of pictures of people smoking. You may say smoking is nasty, smelly, rebellious, dangerous, bad, but in my opinion there’s just something fascinating about the smoke and a cigarette in someones hand can give a certain je ne se quoi.

Music makes the people come together

Last night my bff aka nerdy writer Susa and I went out to enjoy a fun fun girls night out. We went to the ultra hip rock bar, Sidecar, who used to be our favorite place on earth. We spent an incredible fun night with a lot of dancing aka banging heads.

Other not so good things also happened that night, like this desperate, fat, Italian looking guy with a nasty smirk on his face and a fugly leather trench following us around. There was even a point where we where craving for another beer but where short of 50 cent to buy one and spent the last 5 minutes simultaneous looking at the floor. And then there is the classic moment when you are out enjoying a girl power night with your friend and suddenly find yourself surrounded by couples sucking faces. But we didn’t let anything ruin our night and had a blast. The ultimate highlight was when the dj played our favorite song – lust for life – only our cat knows the times we have been dancing around the apartment looking like fools, to this song.

Many of the people who know me will be like, say whaa Sidecar? She ain't no hipster lover, head banger. But here’s a little story of not only multicultural but also mulimusic lover Rubyoh:

When I was 15 reggaeton was the shit and I would shake in the school hallways with my sistah Karoline and I had Daddy Yankee on repeat on my Discman. Then I got bored, there’s a point where your behind gets tired of shaking to the same beat, because at the end every reggaeton song has the same beat, so you move over to dancehall. And I used to dance street dance, so hip-hop has always been my favorite genre of music and there is no secret that I’m in love with Kanye's music, N.E.R.D at the Øya festival 2008 is the best concert I’ve ever been to and I like me some A Millie when I’m at a club (free Weezy!).

Then there is the music you’re parents listen to which infiltrates your brain. My mother would listen to artists like George Michael, Freddy Mercury, Whitney, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Salt n Pepa, Michael Jackson, Sade and being Cuban and all some salsa would invade our home every now and again. Without forgetting all the pop music I listened to before my teen years, like my infinite love for Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Britney Spears (don’t judge, I’d pick Britney over that Miley Cyrus girl any day).

And then I moved to Barcelona and my love for Indie music only grew stronger. Having a flat mate who's not only a nerdy writer but also a indie lover forced me to get to know this genre I knew little about. Sure I had some indie music on my iTunes, the pure commercial one, but not the good shit. Ha! And I have that now.

So all in all without sounding cliché you can say I pretty much like a mixture of everything, DANG! I have even been listening to Marc Anthony when I’ve felt heartbroken, so yes I like everything.

Back to yesterday. I had a coolio night with my best friend and I even discovered the name of the ONLY Spanish rock song I actually like (Spanish rock isn’t growing on me yet) - FUERTE by Surfin Bichos Here you have it:

Remember when I said I was feeling good REAL good, well that went to hell after I started SSSing - slacking, sleeping and supersizing at Mc Do. After two weeks of me trying to make up excuses why not go to the gym that’s right around the corner, I decided that today was the day to change that. So I woke up early, looking and acting like the Grinch and went to the damn gym. And it was good real good. Anywhuuu, while I was trying to forget about the fact that I was near death on the treadmill the song Lagerfeld Lady came on my iPod. It’s a song by the Canadian electro-pop band called Fritz Helder and The Phantoms. I was randomly surfing on the Internet when I discovered this band (oh the joy of wasting time on the net and discovering things). I’ve been listening to ”Lagerfeld lady” since April LAST YEAR and the song has made it to my top 25 list on my iPod. I’m a really big fan of this band and I’ve totally fallen in love with their music, their fashion inspired lyrics and whole image. My friend Susa @writenerdy always asks me why I’m the only one who knows this band, I have really no idea, I think they are COOLio and everyone should know them. So if you are reading this post, look them up.

Another reason I love this band. If you are a man and

can rock them heels you are worthy of mylove and affection.

Speaking of men in heels and Lagerfeld "lady", did anyone see (it’s kinda old) the Purple magazine spread of Karl Lagerfeld’s newest male muse, Baptiste Giabiconi? Lagerfeld himself was the photographer.

Post Secret

When you have something that is running trough your head and making you go crazy, like a secret or a thought, you often feel like you need to say it out loud. But sometimes you really can’t trust anyone enough to tell them your secrets and going to the confession box is not an option. Not getting it off your chest can pretty much be unbearable.

The other day I discovered this blog called – POST SECRET. This started as a community mail art project created by Frank Warren. People mail anonymously their secret on a homemade postcard, some of the cards are selected and posted to the blog and others even get published in the Post Secret books. The mission of this project is to be healing and inspirational to the ones who read and write the secrets, and nonetheless create community of acceptance. The secret must be truthful and never have been revealed before.

I’ve browsed trough the page and seen a lot of interesting things. You see these mini works of art that are an actually telling you someone’s deepest thought, fear or secret. Some of them you can really identify yourself with, others are really sad and emo and there are the ones that just makes you laugh, as if they were taken from fml. The site was coolio and entertaining on a procrastinating day. One of those books is definitely on my wish list. Who knew the secret of strangers would be so interesting (the founder of the page I guess).

I did not shop as much as I would have liked to while in Rome, BUT I got my hands on a pair of wedges that I simply love! I’m proud to say that I paid almost nothing for them at a flea market on a random street corner. They look just like the wedges from the brand Aldo, that I’ve had my eyes on for a while now, but I can't afford. So I’m happy happy happy with my fake cheap wannabe look alike "Aldo" wedges. Even my cat is happy when mom is happy.

I’m baack…

Not been updating a lot lately, I’ve been what you call not inspired, and then Easter break happened and I took off to Rome to visit my lil bro who’s studying there. Had a great week and I’m now ready to get my blogging on.

My brother thought me how to eat pasta with a fork and a spoon (yes crazy), I saw a man cutting animals out of vegetables, I found a picture on the street of three little pigs, I finally learnt how to get that cool sundown effect with my camera, I saw a lot of romantic stuff written on stone, all you can eat on wheels, I felt Spring was finally here, I walked through narrow streets, I saw Judas, I ate GELATI, my bro made me some real good pasta, Hello Kitty had a show, random picture of my lil bro’s Converse, I saw the Coliseum, I went to church, I saw my future building, I saw a pink Vespa and I realized that this crisis thing is still going strong since Disney characters are now begging for money on the streets.

Looking like the male Chinese version of Mary-Kate Olsen, this hot mess has been walking the streets of Ningbo, China as if he was walking down a runway. The handsome Vagabond has been given the name ”Brother Sharp” for his ”sharp” eyes and fashionable appearance. "The beggar prince" has become the hottest topic on the Chinese Internet. His ability to mix old clothes from the trash and get that bohemian style so many fashionistas strive for has amazed many. He has the perfect ”bed hair”, the serious look on his face, he’s always smoking a cigarette and he could easily be mistaken for a high fashion model if we look past the fact that his clothes are actually a bit dirty. The man described as ”mentally disturbed when approached”, is now being referred to as Chinas Coolest man and has earned the title of a fashion Icon.

I personally think that the guy has a pretty cool style and that is without making any effort, not thinking about what you throw on is the idea behind the trendy, laid-back boho chic style. But on the other hand I think people are going way out of hand with this one, stalking the poor man like he was Britney Spears. At least his family found him because of his moment in the limelight.Like seen on the runways of Vivienne Westwood and D&G the boho homeless chic trend has come to stay for a while.
